Who We Are
Welcome to 49Dzine - Where Tradition Meets Modernity
At 49Dzine, we are more than just an online store. We are a celebration of indigenous heritage, a tribute to the strength of our ancestors, and a testament to the enduring legacy of all Indigenous people. Our roots run deep in the rich history of Southern Alberta, and we are proud to share our culture and creativity with the world.
Our Founder's Legacy
Our story begins with our founder, J. Nathan Rainy Chief. As a member of the Kainai First Nation and a descendant of Chief Rainy Chief and Chief Red Crow, he carries a unique connection to one of the pivotal events in Blackfoot history. Nathan's journey was marked with deep cultural significance from the moment he was born. He was cradled in the arms of his Great-Great Grandmother, Rosie Davis, a renowned beadwork artist and traditionalist who left a lasting mark with her artwork featured in museums across the United States and Canada.
Nathan is also a proud descendant of Chief Charlie Davis and other influential chiefs, and he comes from a long line of Trading Post owners. His family's legacy of entrepreneurship and cultural preservation has deeply influenced the spirit of 49Dzine.
Our Vision
Under Nathan's stewardship, 49Dzine has grown to serve an international market, earning recognition even in the prestigious Wall Street Journal. We are not just a business; we are a bridge between tradition and modernity, a testament to the enduring spirit of indigenous culture.
Our Lead Designer
Victoria-Lynn, our business manager and lead designer, is a Métis hailing from Metis Region 3. She brings the authenticity of Southern Alberta to our designs, having spent her life in small towns across the region. Her ancestors come from the Red River Settlement and the Great Lakes region, further enriching the cultural tapestry of 49Dzine.
Victoria graduated from the Alberta College of Art + Design (AUArts) with a Bachelor of Design, specializing in graphic design. She is an animal lover, an illustrator, and a crafter, weaving her passions into her creative work. As the Designer at 49Dzine, Victoria infuses our products and designs with Métis beadwork, quillwork, and embroidery-inspired designs, combining traditional artistry with a contemporary twist.
Our Commitment to the Community
At 49Dzine, we believe in giving back to our community. We have established a scholarship fund to support residential school survivors and their descendants in pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. It's a small way for us to contribute to the resilience of indigenous people and empower future generations.
